Who Will Be Israel’s Next PM? Ben Gvir Leads Kalshi Odds at Launch
The Trade
Someone just mass-bought YES contracts betting that Itamar Ben Gvir will become Israel’s next new Prime Minister. The sweep hit at 12:24 PM ET on day one of this market’s existence: 37 contracts across 4 fills, all YES, worth roughly $18 total. At a bid-ask of 24-27c, that translates to a roughly 24-27% implied chance the market is handing Ben Gvir right now. No NO-side pressure showed up to absorb it. The full 37 contracts landed in a single second, classic sweep behavior.
The Price Impact
This is a first-run market, meaning there’s no prior price history to compare against. The opening trade activity is itself the price discovery. Ben Gvir’s sweep of 37 contracts was the largest single burst of YES flow across the entire Israel PM market at launch. Naftali Bennett (NBEN) drew its own sweep shortly after — 31 contracts at 1:10 PM ET, also 100% YES — but Ben Gvir’s move came first and in larger size. Both now sit at nearly identical prices, 24-27c for Ben Gvir and 26-27c for Bennett, making this effectively a dead heat between the two leading candidates. Yair Lapid and Yair Levy trail well behind at roughly 10c each.
What This Market Is
Kalshi is asking: who will be the next new Prime Minister of Israel, with a resolution deadline of January 1, 2045. If you buy YES on Ben Gvir at 27c and he eventually becomes PM before that date, you collect $1. If he doesn’t, you lose your 27 cents.
The Bottom Line
37 contracts, 100% YES, zero pushback — Ben Gvir drew the biggest opening sweep in this market, but Bennett matched the conviction almost dollar for dollar an hour later. The market opened treating these two as co-frontrunners at roughly 26% each.
