Iran Strikes UAE as Oil Hits $104 — Kalshi WTI Futures Odds

QUICK PICK

Iranian drones struck Dubai International Airport’s fuel tanks and the Fujairah oil port Monday, halting oil loading at the UAE’s largest port and pushing Brent crude to $104 a barrel — up roughly 45% since the U.S. and Israel struck Iran on Feb. 28. Kalshi’s WTI yearly-high contracts price a 32% chance oil reaches $150, 28% for $160, and 19% for $180 by end of 2026, but zero open interest and zero total volume across all three tiers means those figures reflect market-maker estimates, not traded consensus.

THE SETUP

Kalshi’s KXWTIMAX-26DEC31 series pays out YES if WTI crude’s annual high crosses a given threshold — $150, $160, or $180 — before December 31, 2026. The contracts settle using ICE front-month WTI daily settlement prices. With Iran having choked Strait of Hormuz traffic — the corridor for roughly one-fifth of global oil supply — and Tehran warning publicly that $200 oil is possible, these thresholds are no longer theoretical conversation starters.

THE STRATEGY

All three tiers carry zero open interest and zero total volume, so the quoted prices — YES ask of 32¢ at the $150 tier, 28¢ at $160, and 19¢ at $180 — have not been tested by actual buyers or sellers. That creates an opening: if you believe the disruption is more durable than the market has priced, the $150 tier at a YES ask of 32¢ is the lowest-cost entry point available, with the $160 and $180 tiers offering higher upside at lower implied probabilities. WTI itself swung from just under $94 to briefly above $102 in a single session Monday, a range that makes the $150 ceiling look closer than the untouched orderbook suggests.

THE PAYOFF

Watch the $150 tier (KXWTIMAX-26DEC31-T150, YES ask 32¢) first — it resolves early if WTI’s daily ICE settlement crosses $150.01 at any point before the end of 2026 (note: this trigger is based on the official daily ICE front-month settlement price, not an intraday spike, and this mechanism applies regardless of open interest levels), and a sustained Hormuz closure is the clearest catalyst. Any diplomatic opening would compress these prices quickly; the US-Iran nuclear deal contract (KXUSAIRANAGREEMENT-27-26AUG) trades at a YES ask of 26¢, and the US embassy reopening contract (KXIRANEMBASSY-27) sits at 17¢ — both with zero volume — suggesting the market assigns low probability to a near-term off-ramp for the conflict.

CONTRACT NOTES

Because open interest is zero across all tiers, the contract settles early only if WTI’s ICE front-month settlement price — not the intraday spike — crosses the threshold. Kalshi also retains discretion to change the source agency if ICE prices become unreliable, which matters in a sanctions or market-closure scenario. This is market commentary, not financial advice. Always verify contract terms and do your own research before placing any trades.
